About Scott Salberg's Genealogy
Genealogy is always a work in progess, and as such, is never complete. And it
is never error-free, either! Even going back two generations, seeing original
documents, I've seen errors. Any corrections you might have would be welcome
(include some source information if you could, please).

Updates to this site are limited due to space constraints. I have only the
most basic of information here. Complete information, including AKAs, titles,
notes, and sources, can be found at my site at RootsWeb (see link below).
Individuals born in 1930 and later are not listed on the RootsWeb site.

This is ONE database, and all people are "connected" to me, but not
necessarily "related" to me. Often (especially in early New England lines), I'll
find a marriage into one of my lines, and follow the non-related spouse's line back
to see if I can further connect. I have recently added the American Kennedy family,
and the superstar Madonna (who I connected through her relationship to the Duchess of
Cornwall) in my database. But I show no relation to either family, except by
marriage. That's not to say I'm not related in some way, but to say that I have not
proved relationship.

Very often I get requests from people on this site for more information, which piques
my interest and I start searching, and someone to whom I show no relation actually IS
a relation. It happened just the other day (today is 28 May 2008) where I had the
GRANDPARENTS of the man in question, and indeed had one of this brothers, but not
him. That was because at the time I did the research, I was studying only that
brother's line. Anyway, I found that his grandparents were in my database, then was
able to add his father to the grandparents, and it turns out that we are related.

THAT is what is fun!

MAYFLOWER FAMILIES: Information on the ALDEN/MULLINS and CHILTON families of
the Mayflower is welcome, as I descend from them (twice down the Chilton line). Most
Mayflower families are included in my database.

Early SCITUATE, MASSACHUSETTS families: I have most of the early families in
my database. I'm particularly interested in those men known as the Men of Kent, and
specifically Humphrey Turner and Edward Jenkins. Those I don't descend from I am
connected to through marriages. I'm always interested in hearing from people with
information on the early families of Scituate.

EMERSONs of IPSWICH: Any information on the Emersons of Ipswich is welcome.
I descend from Thomas Emerson and Elizabeth Brewster, formerly of Bishops
Stortford, Herts., England.

NOTE ON ROYALS AND NOBLES: Royals do not use surnames, and before about the
mid-thirteenth century almost nobody did. TribalPages now lets you just enter
something in the box and click on Find. So to find, say, King George VI in
this database, enter GEORGE VI in the box and click on Find. Don't enter
titles of royals and nobles because those do not import to this site.

All royal houses of Europe are represented in this database, and go back to
beyond Charlemagne (even into the era Before Christ, but BC dates are not
showing up on this site). I have many princely houses as well. (German princely
families are, for me, very confusing to follow, but I think I have most German
princely houses included, and would love to include more.)

My lineage includes direct descents from Charlemagne (multiple descents - over 100, I
think!), William the Conqueror, King Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine (24th great-
grandparents), King Edward III (19th great-grandfather), King Louis IX of France
(Saint Louis - my 23rd great-grandfather), and even Lady Godiva (she was Countess of
Mercia, and my 32nd great-grandmother).

BTW: Connections to royalty and nobility are what we call "bragging rights". My
descent from them doesn't make me royal or noble. It is often stated that most
people with English ancestry will eventually connect to William the Conqueror, and
most with Continental ancestry will eventually connect to Charlemagne. My luck is
that, at about my 10th or 11th great-grandparents, I happened to follow a line that
connected to "gateway" American ancestors, and thus was able to connect to lines that
are quite well documented.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, please feel
free to email me.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthday and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
